Chinese EV giant BYD's subsidiary rolls out RF1 front millimeter-wave radar in Shenzhen

(JW Insights) Mar 5 -- FinDreams Technology (弗迪科技), a subsidiary of Chinese EV giant BYD, rolled out its new generation of RF1 front millimeter-wave radar on March 5, BYD announced at its global headquarter in Shenzhen, southern China's Guangdong Province.

The RF1 front millimeter-wave radar has passed rigorous testing and will be mass-produced and installed in vehicles in March 2023, said the company.

FinDreams was officially registered in 2019. Its R&D team for millimeter-wave radar products started in 2016 and released its first 24GHz corner millimeter-wave radar in 2017. After mass production and several product iterations, its RB1 corner radar shipments exceeded one million units by the end of 2022, meeting most of BYD's demand for corner radar currently.

The RF1 platform adopts a more sophisticated doppler division multiple access (DDMA) approach to achieve a more extended detection range and better angular resolution, compared to the commonly used time division multiple access (TDMA), said FinDreams.

In addition, the company will mass-produce 4D imaging and automatic door radar and in-cabin detection radar for life presence in 2023, according to the JW Insights report.
