China’s Chongqing City will set up more than 500 superchargers that can top up electric cars with 400 kilometers of range in just 15 minutes, the local Chongqing Daily reported on July 9.

Seven bus stations are building these superchargers and will put into use in two months. Only a few cities in China have this kind of supercharger and Chongqing is the latest to join this rank.

Chongqing currently has nearly 20,000 EV charging poles. About 80% of them are located in the downtown of this 32.1 million population metropolitan, one of the fourth cities under the direct administration of China’s central government.

However, about 11,000 of those charging facilities use traditional technologies and usually take 6 to 8 hours to power an electric vehicle for a range of 400 kilometers. The remaining 9,000 chargers are faster with one to two hours of charging.
