Kunlunxin Technology, the chip design arm of Chinese Internet giant Baidu, established a new subsidiary in Shanghai.

According to Tianyancha, a Chinese corporate registration information platform, the new company is named "Kunwang (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd." (昆望科技). It was registered on May 27 with RMB 10 million($1.503 million) in the Shanghai Pilot Free Trade Zone of Pudong New Area. The legal representative is Wang Yong.

Its business scope includes computer system services, data processing, professional design services, software development and sales, and related import and export business.

According to Tianyancha, Kunwang Technology is 100% owned by Kunlunxin Technology (昆仑芯), which Baidu established in June 2011 with a valuation of about RMB 13 billion($1.9565 billion).

Kunlunxin Technology launched Baidu Kunlun 1, a cloud AI chip, in 2018 using a 14nm process, 16GB HBM advanced memory, and a 2.5D packaging solution. The chip has been widely used in Baidu's search engine system, AI voice assistant Xiaodu, and advertising business.

The second-generation Kunlun AI chip was launched and publicly released by Robin Lee, the founder, chairman, and CEO of Baidu, at the Baidu World Conference in 2021. The chip adopts a 7nm process and is equipped with a self-developed second-generation XPU architecture. Baidu said that its performance is two-to-three times higher than that of the first-generation chip.

Recently, Baidu's self-developed AI acceleration card R200 based on the second-generation Kunlun AI chip won the bid for the server project of Chongqing Municipal Higher People's court.
