Running one processor is not expensive, every laptop has one that does millions of calculations per second. But building a machine with millions of processors and accelerators connected needs hundreds of brilliant minds, billions of dollars and the most advanced interconnect design in the world. In this video, Dr. Jack Dongarra introduced cutting edge supercomputers and the expense to build a state-of-the-art HPC system. Dr. Dongarra formed and contributes to the TOP500 list. He holds appointments at the University of Tennessee and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and teaches computer science at various universities.
